Kingman is home to the Historic Route 66 Museum/Powerhouse Visitor Center and is about an hour's drive from Lake Havasu City. The historic westward route crosses the United States from Chicago to Los Angeles and has come to symbolize American car culture and road trips. The Historic Route 66 Museum is truly unique in that it is a museum of history, housed in the historical Powerhouse building, located in the "heart" of the longest remaining stretch of the 2400 miles that was Route 66. The Historic Route 66 Museum depicts the historical evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Route 66. Exhibits trace the road's emergence from a trade route to wagon trail to a major cross-country artery. The brilliant murals, photos and life-size dioramas capture each of the groups that have traveled the route that has come to be known as the Mother Road. Great for all ages, this important part of American history is both educational and inspirational. Learn how the coasts of this country were brought together and how life thrived upon the stretches of this legendary road. Mon-Sat 9am-4pm Last tours admitted at 3:30pm
